There are a ton of people who sell direct marketing company products and services. We are all selling the something and many of us are selling the same things so what makes some of us more successful than others?
How do you really stand out among the masses when it comes to building your MLM business?
For me, there are a lot of wellness advocates who share and sell doTERRA natural products and essential oils. At the end of the day we are all going to buy the same bottle of oil with the same high quality ingredients and benefits. We are all clamoring for the same pool of customers who want to purchase essential oils and natural products. So what makes one person pick from who to buy from?
This is my own personal “B” list that I use to help me stay true to myself and remind myself that I am capable and able to be successful in this business. Please leave a comment if you have your own “B” list items to add!
You are brilliant, creative, welcoming and have a beautiful strength in taking that first step to start your own small business. The best marketing tool, sales strategy and tool you have at your fingertips is you!
No one else has your story, your why or your ability to express the way you do about that product or service. You have your own unique style of messaging, service and relationship you can build with a customer. Only you can share your own personal experience that will be unlike any other experience or story anyone else will share with that person.
Always, always, always let your voice be your own. Let your message be your own. It’s ok to quote stats or one-liners that are appropriate but let the frame of that conversation and communication be entirely you.
In operating your small business you will encounter lots of new things to learn and lots of new experiences. It will feel awkward, uncomfortable and probably challenge you in more ways than you ever thought possible. All of this is good.
This is your chance to be bold, take the risk and overcome what you didn’t think you could do. Take the initiative and try something new. Be open to the experience, adventure and opportunity and see what happens.
It totally amazes me when someone doesn’t mention right away what they do in their small business or they mumble it in the end of explaining what they do for a living. It doesn’t matter if you only made a $1 last month be proud of what you are doing!
If you are not excited, proud and unashamed of your small business then ask why you are doing it! MLM, direct sales, direct marketing are not dirty words that we should feel ashamed of telling others what we do. This is part of us and we deserve to feel good about what we do. Don’t hide it!
Be Your Brand
What you sell is not the company’s name it’s your name. It’s you someone is buying from because they trust you and have worked with you to conclude this is a product or service they need – from you!
Think of yourself as a brand, image and icon for the products and services. Use the products, be your own customer and learn how you can deliver the best of service and support to others. Be sure the products you sell are things you believe in and know work first hand from your own experience.
In all that you do in your business (and life) be honest. Don’t endorse something you haven’t used. Don’t sell something and tell someone it works fantastic and you have never used it.
Integrity and reputation make or break a business. Think of all the companies you’ve seen on the news being sued for hiding facts, distorting messaging or being shady about their products that caused harm, charged people hundreds even thousands of dollars and was incredibly unethical.
Don’t be like that. Be honest in all your business dealings, in all your messaging and marketing and in all that you do and promise.
