Throughout the Christian Bible are stories that mention oil being used. Oil was used to ceremonies and rites including births and deaths. There are also stories of oils being used to heal the sick, bless and annote people. Oil was also used as gifts such as the birth of the baby Jesus. In many stories oils were guarded, protected and help sacred because of their value and purpose in the lives of these ancient people. We know from this time that Frankincense and Myrrh were both valued for their health benefits. We also know these oils were considered more valuable than money or gold.
These two oils were among the most prized discoveries medicinally, religiously and spiritually man had even though many other oils were used at this time.
Frankincense and Myrrh are both resins. They are pleasantly fragrant and you can tell just by opening the bottle they are special. Myrrh is very thick and sticky. When you haven’t opened the bottle in awhile you may find it stuck similar to how you find honey after it’s been unused for a while. Myrrh is woodsy in aroma that is warm and grounding. It layers well with other oils and can be used topically on our skin. Frankincense also has a woodsy aroma but seems more spicy while being light in texture. It also can be used topically against the skin and internally. Both oils are beautiful diffused aromatically.
When you experience a pure oil you will quickly learn to recognize fakes and ones that have other ingredients in them as compared to the real thing. The aromas are distinct. While these oils are very old and have long detailed histories we continue to learn about their benefits to supporting our health. For example many universities and hospitals are looking at how Frankincense can be used to support cancer recovery and treatment. In Northern Kentucky St. Elizabeth Hospital is building a brand new oncology unit that will incorporate doTERRA natural solutions in their treatments.
Frankincense is among the top.
We have long known that oils such as Frankincense and Myrrh are actually good for us. They are truly gifts of nature for our health and well-being. The ties these oils have to the Bible only highlight their long list of benefits and support. Including these oils on your natural health journey is like having 2 wonderful sidekicks that are multipurpose in uses and pleasant to be around. Here are some of my favorite ways to use these oils at Christmastime.
Christmas House Spray
2 drops doTERRA Black Spruce
2 drops doTERRA Siberian Fir
8 drops doTERRA Green Mandarin
1 drop doTERRA Cinnamon Bark
2 drops doTERRA Clove
4 drops doTERRA Frankincense
Mix oils in 10 fluid ounce bottle with water and mist as desired. You can also decrease the drops and use this as a wonderful diffuser blend.
Christmas Logs
Before loading wood in the fireplace, add a few drops of doTERRA essential oils to the low and allow time for the oils to soak through and dry. Only use 1 oil log at a time. Dispersing oils through this method is aromatic and mingles well with the crackle of the fireplace to set a beautiful ambiance in your room.
Mix 2 drops each of these doTERRA oils in a bowl:
Cedarwood
Sandalwood
Frankincense
Cypress
Myrrh
Black Spruce
Wild Orange
Apply along the cut edge of the wood and allow to soak and dry before use.
Tree Spray
Many of us use fake trees in our home these days for the convenience and recognition our planet needs to protect it’s trees. Most fake trees are pre-lite and easy to assemble and store but they lack one major characteristic over real trees – the aroma.
You can safely change that situation by either adding in diffuser ornaments to your tree or periodically misting it gently with a spray to provide that desired tree smell. One of my favorite mixes includes these doTERRA oils:
2 drops Myrrh
2 drops Frankincense
2 drops Wild Orange
2 drops Cinnamon Bark
Mix together with 8 fluid ounces of water and apply to a diffuser ornament or your tree.
Scented Paper
You can scent your wrapping paper and cards with a couple drops of doTERRA Frankincense and Myrrh. This does a couple things that are truly beautiful to that gift.
First, you and the recipient will smell an incredible scent that is relaxing and uplifting. Secondly, it literally makes the gift more special because you are extending these beautiful oils to another person.
Simply mist a couple drops onto tissue paper, let dry and then wrap with paper. If using on notecards, again spray the inside of the card, let dry and then write your personal note.
The Smell of Christmas
Including Frankincense and Myrrh in your holiday connects you to your higher power. It allows you to release and relax in knowing there is something special gifted to us by nature and our higher power that is always with us. Sharing these aromas with us gives them the ability to also experience these connections and connects us to one another.
doTERRA always have Frankincense and Myrrh on sale in December making it extra special to get and include in your holidays. You can get these oils and the others I mention in this post here: dragonspitapothecary.com/christmasoils
